An ageing roof window doesn't always mean you need to redesign the entire roof. Existing VELUX roof windows can often be replaced with modern units, improving appearance, operation, glazing performance and weather resistance. We replace older roof windows that have become worn, damaged or outdated.
Reasons for Replacing a Roof Window
Consider replacement if experiencing:
- Draughts
- Difficult opening or closing
- Deteriorated frames
- Failed glazing
- Water ingress
- Excessive condensation
- Poor thermal performance
- An outdated window
We'll inspect the existing installation and advise whether repair or replacement is the more sensible option.
Technical Specifications
What the Spec Sheet Says
Replacement is often as much about the glazing spec as the window itself — older units are frequently well behind current performance standards.
- Current double-glazed VELUX units achieve a U-value of around 1.3 W/m²K, with the best triple-glazed options down to roughly 0.83 W/m²K — a meaningful step up from windows fitted 15–20 years ago.
- Both laminated-pine and maintenance-free white polyurethane frame options are available on replacement units, so the finish doesn't have to match what was there before unless you want it to.
- Because the surrounding flashing is disturbed during replacement, it's inspected and typically renewed at the same time rather than reused, which reduces the chance of leaks developing later.
Figures are typical for the VELUX ranges we install and vary by exact model — we'll confirm the specification that suits your roof at survey.
