Lower-pitched roofs can present particular challenges when installing roof windows. Specialist low-pitch solutions make it possible to introduce natural daylight into properties where a conventional roof-window installation may not be suitable.
Roof Windows for Lower Roof Pitches
Useful for:
- Extensions
- Renovated properties
- Shallow pitched roofs
- Kitchen extensions
- Converted roof spaces
The correct window and installation system needs to be selected for the particular roof pitch.
Why Roof Pitch Matters
Roof windows need to manage rainfall effectively. The angle of the roof therefore affects the type of window, flashing and installation system required. We assess the roof before recommending a solution rather than trying to make a standard installation fit an unsuitable application.

What the Spec Sheet Says
Roof pitch is one of the first things we check on a survey, because it decides which product family is actually suitable — not every VELUX window can go on every roof.
- Standard roof windows are only rated down to a 15° pitch — below that, water can't shed off the glazing reliably and a different product is needed.
- For pitches shallower than 15°, right down to a completely flat roof, VELUX's flat-roof window and dome systems are designed specifically to manage drainage at those low angles.
- Choosing the wrong system for the pitch is one of the more common causes of leaks we're called out to investigate, which is why we always specify against the actual measured pitch rather than assuming.
Figures are typical for the VELUX ranges we install and vary by exact model — we'll confirm the specification that suits your roof at survey.
